Maybe binging is a subconscious attempt to fill a void that we know no other way to fill. Maybe anorexia is acting out the starvation felt within the soul. Maybe bulimia is representing the panic to keep shoving down emotions we have imprisoned inside of ourselves while at the same time are yearning to be set free.
Many of us use food as a coping mechanism. Many of us who do this, either resent food for the power it holds over us or don’t recognize that we are doing it all. If you find anything or everything about food a struggle, stop trying to change your behavior and just observe without judgment. Observe your habits, behaviors and emotions around food. See what presents itself. Eventually, your eyes will be opened in one new way or another.
There is something about food that can trigger emotional roller coasters so be kind to yourself, have patience and trust that your body is much wiser than you think. If food is your vice, it is for a reason. You don’t need to take that away from yourself, just start exploring other ways to fill the void and explore what this void is that you are attempting to fill. Don’t overwhelm yourself, it’s nothing more than a process of self discovery. Enjoy it.
